Randomness

It's Finnish!!

I was taking a rest and playing with a balloon today, and suddenly my boss came in and caught me, and said, "Don't hurt yourself, Hai!"

Btw, balloon is a perfect tool to test randomness. This sentence is profound.

AMERICA & WILLIAMS

 AMERICA
by Samuel Francis Smith

My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
  Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring.

Our fathers' God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
  To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King.

The Mountains
College Song by Washington Gladden, 1859
1. O, proudly rise the monarchs of our mountain land
With their kingly forest robes to the sky
Where Alma Mater dwelleth with her chosen band,
And the peaceful river floweth gently by.

CHORUS:
The mountains! the mountains! we greet them with a song,
Whose echoes, rebounding their woodland heights along,
Shall mingle with anthems that winds and fountains sing,
Till hill and valley gaily, gaily ring.

2. The snows of Winter crown them with a crystal crown,
    And the silver clouds of Summer round them cling;
The Autumn's scarlet mantles flows in richness down,
And they revel in the garniture of Spring.

3. O, mightly they battle with a storm-king's power;
And conquerors shall triumph here for aye
Yet quietly their shadows fall at evening hour,
While the gentle breezes round them softly play.

4. Beneath their peaceful shadows may old Williams stand
'Til sun and mountains never more shall be
The glory and the honor of our mountain land,
And the dwelling of the gallant and the free.

God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
Let them rest
Heaven blessed

ARW 357

"You know, the most amazing thing happened to me tonight. I was coming here, on the way to the lecture, and I came in through the parking lot. And you won't believe what happened. I saw a car with the license plate ARW 357. Can you imagine? Of all the millions of license plates in the state, what was the chance that I would see that particular one tonight? Amazing! "

Firecracker

Carwood Lipton:

For some reason, at that moment, in that half-finished foxhole...
...all I could think about was the Fourth of July when I was a kid.
I loved to make my own firecrackers, cherry bombs, ladyfingers.
I loved to blow up dirt clods and pop bottles and the like.
Looked forward to it all year long.
What I saw that day was the most awesome...
...and terrifying display of firepower I'd ever seen in my life.
Of course, I wouldn't have been laughing if I'd known what happened to Joe Toye.

During the second barrage, I wasn't laughing anymore.

Joe Toye had lost his leg.

Band of Brothers Requiem

In memory of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Infantry Division
and of Class 8 in the Class of 2007

First Lieutenant Carwood Lipton:
Henry the Fifth was talking to his men.
He said, "From this day to the ending of the world...
"...we in it shall be remembered.
"We lucky few, we band of brothers.
"For he who today sheds his blood with me...
"...shall be my brother."
Major Dick Winters:
I cherish...
...the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day...
...when he said:
"Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?"
Grandpa said, "No...
"...but I served in the company of heroes."

"Sons of Scotland"

Wallace: Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.

Young soldier: William Wallace is 7 feet tall.

Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny. You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you fight?

Veteran soldier: Fight? Against that? No, we will run; and we will live.

Wallace: Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom.

Wallace and Soldiers: Alba gu bra! (Scotland forever!)
